What types of classes do you offer?
FIELD CLASSES: These classes are taught on specific dates by Peter Chausse. Peter offers one, two, and three day classes. Most classes are held outdoors, and focus on exploration and discovery. In most classes, there is some leisurely paced walking. Public transportation is often used, or carpooling may take place in some classes. Peter currently teaches more than 40 different field classes.
SELF GUIDED COURSES: If you cannot attend a field class on the dates that they are offered, you can earn credit for any field class by visiting the same sites at your own pace. Peter can send you information about each site. You will be asked to document your visits to each site, and provide summaries of your site visits. You will also be asked to suggest classroom lesson ideas and field trips based on your site visits.
DRIVING TOUR COURSES: Peter offers three 5 credit Driving Tour courses. These classes can be completed independently, or in collaboration with other teachers. Each of these courses requires participants to visit at least 30 sites. Peter will provide a workbook for each course with information about suggested sites. Participants are then asked to provide classroom lesson and field trip ideas.
INDEPENDENT STUDY COURSES: In these courses, participants combine academic and field studies to design lesson ideas and/or field trips for their students. Peter provides a workbook for each course filled with background information and suggested lesson ideas. Participants can work independently, or in collaboration with other teachers.
You can register for Driving Tour courses, Self Guided courses, or Guided Independent Study courses, by calling the Heritage Institute at 800-445-1305, or online at www.hol.edu.
