In this diversified driving tour experience, you’ll make your way to at least 18 cultural, historical, and or natural sites in Central Oregon (from Warm Springs to Prineville), where you’ll discover the natural and human history of this area. You will learn about the region’s past, present, and future potential. In addition, you will learn much about the natural fauna and flora of the region as you explore forested trails, volcanic areas, and alpine regions. Along the way, you’ll develop dozens of ideas for bringing the study of Central Oregon to your students.
Exploring Portland's Cultural Sites
5 Credits SS412s or SS512s $450
In this diversified driving tour experience, you will make your way to at least 30 cultural and historic sites in the Portland Metro Area, where you will discover cultural museums, magnificent historic homes, poignant memorials, and a blend of the area's visual and performing arts. Along the way, you will develop dozens of ideas for bringing the study of Portland's culture to your students, both in the classroom and on field trips.
Studying the Bridges of Western Oregon
5 Credits SS412r or SS512r $450
In this exciting new driving tour, you will make your way to Portland, the Willamette Valley, and along the Oregon Coast to discover more than 50 magnificient bridges. You will learn the history behind each bridge, and you will have the opportunity to travel over many bridges on foot. Along the way, you will examine highway bridges, foot bridges, skybridges, and covered bridges. Most importantly, you will learn how to bring this information to students, through hands-on classroom lessons, and innovative fields trips.
Exploring Portland's Natural Areas
5 Credits SC415N or SC515N $450
In this course, you will traverse Portland and surrounding suburban areas to discover a variety of forested parks, gorgeous gardens, wetlands sites and geologic sites, where you will learn about trees, plants, birds, ecosystems, and natural formations. Most importantly, you will learn how to bring this information to your students across the curriculum, both in the classroom and on field trips.
Exploring Seattle's Cultural Sites
5 Credits SS418M/SS518M $450
In this diversified driving tour experience, you’ll make your way to at least 30 cultural, natural and historic venues in the Seattle Metro Area, where you’ll discover cultural museums, historic sites, beautiful cultural gardens, and a blend of the area’s visual and performing arts. Along the way, you’ll develop dozens of ideas for bringing the study of Seattle’s culture to your students, both in the classroom and on field trips. This course is appropriate for teachers of all subjects, grades K-12.
Exploring the North Oregon Coast: Human and Natural History
3 Credits SS417E/SS517E
In this diversified driving tour experience, you’ll make your way to at least 18 cultural, historic and/or natural sites along the Northern Oregon Coast, (from Astoria to Tillamook), where you’ll discover cultural and historic museums, magnificent homes, significant historic sites, gorgeous natural sites, state parks and diversified beach areas. You will learn about the region’s past, present and future potential, Along the way, you will learn more of the discoveries of Robert Gray, George Vancouver, Lewis & Clark, and John Jacob Astor. In addition, you will learn much about the natural fauna and flora of the region, as you explore forested trails, diversified tide pools and glorious beaches. Along the way, you’ll develop dozens of ideas for bringing the study of the North Oregon Coast to your students. In this diversified driving tour experience, you’ll make your way to at least 30 natural sites in SW Washington (from Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens to the Washington Coast, Vancouver, and the Columbia Gorge), where you’ll discover the natural history of this area. You will learn about the region’s past, present, and future potential. You will also learn much about the natural fauna and flora of the region as you explore city parks, forested trails, volcanic areas, and alpine regions. Along the way, you’ll develop dozens of ideas for bringing the study of SW Washington’s Natural Areas to your students.
This course is appropriate for teachers K-12.
